Six Habits Of Successful Exercisers

Six Habits Of Successful Exercisers

1. HAVE A PLAN

Going to the gym with no plan is a terrible idea.. you instantly hinder your potential progress by not having a well thought out exercise routine. Having a solid plan means you arrive knowing exactly what you should be doing which makes your workout far more productive.

2. HAVE A WORKOUT SCHEDULE

Scheduling workouts is essential to ensuring you stay on top of them. Rather than just going to the gym when you can fit it into your day, instead set a specific time and write it in your diary, perhaps schedule a workout with a friend to ensure you stay accountable. The action of scheduling a workout at a specific time makes it much more likely that you’ll exercise on that day, you should treat your scheduled workout as an appointment like any other.

3. RECORD YOUR WORKOUTS

Keeping a training diary and recording your workouts is very beneficial. It not only highlights your progress but also will help keep you motivated by highlighting the time and effort you have already put in… If you skip any workouts, you’ll soon see gaps in your diary as there will be big, blank pages staring you in the face! The last thing you want to see is a gap in your workout diary.

4. TIME YOUR RECOVERY PERIODS

Timing your recovery periods between sets is an essential component to ensuring you maintain focus during your workouts. It means you are less likely to be distracted between sets and ensures that your workouts are as productive as they can be. Resting too long between sets can lead to distractions and ultimately derail your workout progress. Use a stopwatch to time your recovery periods and not just the clock in the gym.

5. HAVE A GOAL

This may sound fairly obvious, but having a goal is ESSENTIAL.. If you have a goal, you are much more likely to stick to your exercise plan and keep up your motivation. Goals should be something meaningful that you want to achieve, and they also should be somthing measurable so you can accurately track your progress. Having a vague goal like “get fit” won’t cut it. Goals can be something as specific as a level of body fat you want to reach, or a weight you want to be able to lift.

6. ENJOY WHAT YOU DO

Most importantly, enjoy what you do! There is no point making yourself miserable.. there are so many different forms of exercise to choose from, there is no reason to be a slave to your workout and do something that you don’t enjoy. Your goal should be to follow a workout routine that is both fun and rewarding. You should not view training as punishment or something you must endure – you’ll never make it a habit with that kind of mindset.
