Any workout is better than no workout. But, that doesn’t mean you’re getting the most out of your exercises. We’ve listed the top techniques you can incorporate to maximize your workouts.
1. Cardio alone has significant weight loss benefits. However, once you incorporate weights into your workout you will amplify these effects. A great way to do this is to wear wrist or ankle weights during your cardio. Or, alternatively, you can just hold small dumbbells. Just be careful not to overdo it. Even fairly light weights will make a world of difference to your workout.
2. Switch things up. Sticking to one pace throughout your workout wont burn nearly as many calories as alternating between different paces. Changing pace enables you to burn more calories in less time.
3. Hit your max each time. In this case, we’re not referring to your weightlifting max, but the burning feeling you get whilst working a particular muscle group. This is known as reaching your anaerobic threshold: once you reach this point your body is burning the most calories possible.
4. Make every minute count. Wait until after your workout to post that gym selfie, by taking long breaks between exercises you’re allowing your heart rate to return to normal. Keep your heart rate elevated even by doing light jogging on the spot between exercises, that way your body has to work harder and you’ll burn more calories as a result.
